So long, "Shaka" and Hello OVR

"Shaka" is now "OVR"

Thanks to the help of a local trademark attorney, I have to part ways with the name "Shaka" this week. There were a number of branding and legal issues with it, not to mention it just used everywhere and isn't all that original sadly, so it's time to move on. I do think the products could still be called "Shakas", which just sounds right since the whole point of the garments is hanging loose. I guess we'll see about that part.

For now, I've come up with a new name that captures all the concepts of the brand in three clean letters: OVR

Where does the name "OVR" come from?

For starters, it's how you wear it, over your body. The ponchos cover you while you change, or just air out after a workout

You wear this mostly when the workout is over. You've done all this hard work, but are still in your sweaty workout clothes. I strongly believe when the workout is over you should get out of that gross stuff and free your body to dry and recover. I also think it's about savoring the post-workout vibe, and that for me the sweaty clothes just ruin it. It's like all I can think about sometimes is how gross that is for my skin to stay in them, which is a big reason I started this company.

I'm still not sure what to call the ponchos themselves though. They're honestly not ponchos given they have sleeves and things like snaps, etc. They're also not really anoraks, which is good cuz that doesn't even sound good.

So the hunt for the product name will continue.

In the meantime, say hello to OVR!
